GREENSBORO, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - North Carolina A&T State University was placed on lockdown Friday after a report of an armed man on campus.
According to university officials, the suspect threatened to shoot a female student. The suspect had last been seen running from Pride Hall toward the stadium.
The suspect, described as a tall, thin black man, was detained by police, officials said. Investigators were still at the scene interviewing witnesses.
NC A&T tweeted an alert about 1 p.m. for the campus communty to shelter in place. No one was allowed to enter or leave campus buildings until further notice. The lockdown has since been lifted.
"The subject is a tall, thin black man, who threatened to shoot a female student. He was last seen running from Pride Hall toward the stadium. #NCAT," the school tweeted. "The suspect is described as having hair in twists, wearing black sweatpants and a black bookbag, possibly no shirt."
Bennett College also announced a lockdown at about 2:09 p.m. due to the situation at NC A&T.
