CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) - If you found yourself waiting in long lines at early voting sites on Saturday, you were not alone!
At the University City Library, the line wrapped around the parking lot twice. Voters came in as early as an hour before voting even started but waited in line for close to 2 hours.
"When I got here, it was about 8:20. Then, the line was just all the way out. We were all the way around the curve at that time," Lisa Franklin said.
Some tell FOX 46 Charlotte, they knew they were in for a long wait.
“I was kind of prepared for long lines. I sort of figured that it was going to take a couple of hours until I could get in to vote. I knew it was a big election, so I brought a book," Lauren Rishel said.
It's such an important election for many voters that those waiting in line were ordering delivery so they didn't lose their spot in line.
“By far, if this is one of the most important, this probably would take a the cake. If you don't vote this time, you might as not vote anymore," Tamika Caggins said.
Voters tell FOX 46 Charlotte, while they admit they may have procrastinated, they say it gave them a little more time to prepare.
"Actually, this year I did more research on local candidates. I feel prepared," Chris Jones said.
“I actually have a sample ballot that I printed out and picked who I am going to have; all the candidates and went through all the judges," Rishel said.
“I may not be excited about the candidates that we have but I still want to put the vote in," Jones said.
All these voters agree, they rather wait in line on the last day of early voting than on Election Day.
“I was expecting a crowd but I wasn’t expecting it to be quite this big. I hear it is worse on the actual November 8th," Rishel said.
"I did that last year and it was very long. I did want to avoid that long wait. This is long but not as long," Jones said.
For those of you waiting on Election Day, polls will be open on Tuesday from 6:30am until 7:30pm.
