At least five miles of delays were reported on Interstate 85 northbound starting near McAdenville Rd (Exit 23) following a serious crash involving two tractor trailers.
Only the left lane was open during the Wednesday morning commute after two trucks were involved in a rear-end collision near the exit. The one truck appears to have driven into the back of the first truck. The right and center lanes were closed as crews worked to clear the wreck.
The driver of the rear truck was carrying several pipes, each weighing about 12,000 pounds. He told Fox 46 News that he ducked down in his cab as he heard one of the pipes sliding forward and crashing into his cab.
Alternate routes including US 74 and NC 7 were jammed with extra cars trying to get into Charlotte Wednesday.
