Man arrested for neglecting bedridden wife for 9 months

Lincoln County Sheriff's Office have charged a man accused of neglecting his bedridden wife for about nine months.

Bobby Dean Armstrong, 72, is charged with one felony count of neglect of a disabled/elderly person with serious injury.

Armstrong was charged because he did not provide medical care and hygienic care to his wife Janet Armstrong, 72, according to detectives. Detectives say she was forced to lie in her own excrement, had bed sores on her body and had a deep open leg wound that was covered with maggots.

The injuries were from a lack of attention and caregiving.

Lincoln County EMS was called out to the home on Friday, September 18, after Armstrong went to an EMS base looking for  help for his wife. EMS took the patient to Presbyterian Huntersville where she was treated and transferred to Charlotte where she died the next day.

Armstrong was arrested at the Stanley Total Living Center and taken before a magistrate and placed under a $100,000 unsecured bond. His first appearance is Friday, November 6th.
