Man arrested for several robberies in the Plaza-Midwood community

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has arrested a man in connection to a string of robberies in the Plaza-Midwood community.

Donovan Davis, 25, is charged with three counts of common law robbery.

On November 21, 2017, at 8:17 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Central Ave. at Thomas Avenue concerning a robbery involving a woman who had her phone stolen after being assaulted by a man. The suspect was not apprehended at that time.

More than a month later, on January 9, 2018, at 4:22 p.m., CMPD said a woman was walking to her car at Central Ave and Thomas Ave. when she was approached by a man who asked her for a cigarette before he grabbed her purse and left the area in a black SUV.

Just one day later on January 10, at 7:56 p.m., police said a woman was walking on Thomas Ave. when she was approached by a man who forcibly took her purse from her and left the area in a black SUV.

During the course of the investigation, CMPD officers and detectives canvassed the neighborhood, gathered evidence, interviewed potential witnesses and business owners in attempt to identify a suspect in the robberies.

On Friday, January 12, officers received information from a community member who assisted them in identifying a potential suspect. That information in addition to evidence and information gathered in the investigation led officers to arrest Davis for his involvement in the cases.
