Man arrested in Labor Day shooting at Northlake Mall

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested a local man Thursday in connection to the Labor Day shooting incident at Northlake Mall. 

Officers charged Antonio Lamont Gaines, 27, with two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill.   

On Monday, September 5, around 3:14 p.m. officers were called to the Northlake Mall located at 6801 Northlake Mall Drive in reference to a shooting in the parking lot. Police were unable to locate a suspect or victim at that time.

Evidence gathered by detectives led them in identifying both the victim in this case as well as the suspect. Officers said the two individuals were known to one another and had been involved in prior arguments that led to this shooting. 

On Thursday, September 8, police located Gaines inside of a home in the 6200 block of Pine Street. A loaded handgun was located next to Gaines. During a subsequent search of the home, an additional handgun and rifle ammunition were also located. 

Officers also arrested Timothy Hines, 27, who was also inside of the home and charged him with a Probation Violation and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
