Man breaks into home, beats friend with tire iron

An Iredell County man was arrested after breaking into his friends home and beating him with a tire iron.

The sheriff's office got a call for a breaking and entering Thursday around 12:35 p.m. and were told a victim had been assaulted with a metal object.

When deputies and detectives arrived they found out that the victim knew the suspect.

The victim told police that his friend, Matthew Scott Gregory broke into his place by breaking the glass to the back door.

Gregory went into the victim's room while he was asleep, according to police. The victim told police he woke up to his dog barking and saw Gregory standing over him with a tire iron.

The victim said Gregory started yelling at him and began to hit him in the head and all over his body with the iron.

The victim said he was able to make it outside where he stopped a car on Rinehardt Road and asked for help because he believed Gregory was trying to kill him.

Police called Gregory and he came back to the home and admitted to breaking in and assaulting the victim. He told police he believed the victim broke into his car the night before.

Gregory was charged with breaking and entering and assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently in the Iredell County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
