Man charged in east Charlotte shooting

A Charlotte man has been charged in an east Charlotte shooting that occurred on February 7th in the 4500 block of Perth Ct., according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. 

The victim in the shooting was shot in the stomach with a small caliber handgun, police say. He was taken to CMC by Medic with non-life threatening injuries. 

Police say the suspect, Giovanni Monroy, 17, attempted to rob the victim and then shot him. Monroy was arrested Saturday evening and booked at the Mecklenburg County Jail. 

He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill causing serious injury and attempted armed robbery. His bond is set at $80,000.
