Man charged with attempted murder in Statesville shooting

A Statesville man has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting that happened on Wednesday, police said. 

The shooting happened shortly after midnight Wednesday, Jan. 24 in the Wilson Lee, Garner Bagnal Blvd. area. 

The victim, identified as Zarrie James was shot during the incident. He is currently listed in stable condition in the hospital, police said. 

Malik Quashon Bridges, 20, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection to this shooting. He is being held on a $500,000 secured bond at the Iredell County jail. 

“We were able to secure a warrant for Bridges’ arrest based on information received during the investigation of Zarrie James’ shooting, along with additional evidence received from the search warrant executed at 301 W. Raleigh Ave. late Wednesday,” said Statesville Police Chief Joe Barone 

Investigators with the Violent Crime Collaborative are planning to interview Bridges Friday.
