A man has been arrested after allegedly setting a puppy on fire at a church parking lot over the weekend in South Carolina, according to Richland County Sheriff's Department.

Hykeem Golson, 21, is charged with felony ill treatment of animals.

According to Sheriff Leon Lott, Golson set the 8 to 10 week old pit bull on fire about 7 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church on Saturday in Columbia, SC.

Deputies rushed the puppy to an animal hospital where it later died.

Sheriff Lott stated that Golson used accelerant and other material to set the puppy on fire.
