Man charged with stealing couple's car with dog inside

A man has been charged after authorities say he took off with a couple's vehicle last week while their dog was sitting in the back seat.

Justin Wayne SIngleton, 28 of Valdese, is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, larceny of a dog and cruelty to animials. 

The Alexander County Sheriff's Office says Singleton and another suspect stole a couple's car from a Dollar General parking lot in Bethlehem on Wednesday, August 17. According to the dog's owner, Heather Fleenor, her boyfriend went into the store and reportedly left the car running, but locked the doors and cracked one window. He left their puppy, Gabby inside the vehicle. 

Fleenor, tells FOX 46 that she has been found and that other than being dirty and hungry, she's doing well.. 

The Sheriff's Office says more arrests are expected in this case.

Singleton is in the Burke Catawba Jail on unrelated charges.
