Man confesses to murder of Rock Hill man found dead by family

A man found in Charlotte has confessed to the murder of a Rock Hill man who was found dead by his family inside his home earlier this week. 

Charles Thomas Ridings, 22, of Denton, North Carolina, is charged with murder, armed robbery, and grand larceny in the death of 45-year-old Scottie Starnes. 

York County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Starnes' house in the 1400 block of Old Friendship Road in Rock Hill on Tuesday, June 5 where they discovered Starnes' body. 

Deputies believe the murder itself occurred days prior, on June 2.

York County detectives along with the CMPD Street Crimes Unit, discovered that Ridings stole Starnes' vehicle following the murder. The vehicle was located in Charlotte. Ridings was eventually found and confessed to the murder. 

Ridings is currently being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail until an extradition hearing can take place, detectives said.
