Man dies after exchanging gunfire with police in Salisbury

A man is dead after exchanging gun fire with officers Thursday morning in Salisbury, police said.

At about 9:25 a.m. officers and narcotics detectives with the Salisbury Police Department were serving a no-knock search warrant at a home on E. Lafayette Street. The warrant was to search for drugs, weapons and stolen property, police said.

The Special Response Team was used to serve the warrant because the suspect in the home were known to be armed, police said.

As officers were entering the home, one person fired at least one shot at the officers. Officers returned fire, striking the person, police said.

The man, who has been identified as 22-year-old Ferguson Claude Laurent Jr., was taken to a local hospital where he later passed away.
