Man found shot, killed in northeast Charlotte identified

A man who was shot and killed by an unknown person early Wednesday morning in northeast Charlotte has been identified by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. 

The victim has been identified as Dameon Rashad Mack, 37. His family has been notified of his death. 

Officers said they were called to the 4100 block of Atmore Street at 6:21 a.m. Wednesday, March 7 to assist Medic. Upon arrival, they located a man deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. '

"I heard like a bang around 6:30. I wasn't pay any attention I was getting ready for work," said Terrell Kelly, a neighbor in the area. 

Detectives were canvassing the area Wednesday morning to determine whether there were any witnesses to this murder. 

This remains an ongoing, active investigation. 

Court records show Mack was charged with first degree murder in Gaston County in November of 2003.

He ended up taking a plea deal for second degree murder serving nearly sixteen years in prison at the Polk Correctional Institution in Butner.
