The search is on for the person responsible for shooting and killing a man in his car along a rural road in Chesterfield County on Easter morning.

Sheriff Jay Brooks tells FOX 46 Charlotte they know 29-year-old Wendell Price Jr. was at his apartment in Pageland around 3 a.m. Sunday. Investigators hope to speak with the people he was last seen with before his body was discovered around 8 a.m.

"Whoever it was, was angry. You could tell by the number of shots," Sheriff Jay Brooks said.

Investigators said a driver found the body on Wendell Price just before 8 a.m. He was sitting slumped over in the drivers seat of his 2016 Toyota Corolla, at the intersection of Highway 145 and Sandy Plains Road.

Sheriff Jay Brooks said the car was in park and still running.

"I think he knew who this was and it was between the two of them," Sheriff Brooks said.

The rural location where the body was found is providing little clues as to what exactly happened. Investigators haven't found any witnesses and there are no cameras in the area.

"Big cities you kinda expect people to be found dead somewhere, but in small towns like this you just never would expect it," Amber Stone said, who driving by the scene Sunday morning.

Drivers, like Amber Stone, approached the scene Sunday morning and were unaware a man had been murdered at the intersection. The Easter holiday quickly took a somber turn for the small community.

"Your safety is just something you have to carry with you everywhere you go. It's questionable if you can even go see family anymore on vacation or on Easter holiday. It makes you wonder," Stone said.

Investigators said Wendell Price was a known crossdresser and went by the name Sasha. He was found wearing makeup and women's clothes Sunday morning. Investigators said they're trying to figure out if that has any connection to his death.

Anyone with information on this homicide is asked to call investigators at 843-623-2101.
