Man found shot to death in vacant field in west Charlotte

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is actively searching for a suspect who shot and killed a man late Thursday night in west Charlotte. The victim had attempted to run away before collapsing in a vacant field, police said. 

Officers were called to the scene at 9:35 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 in the 1300 block of Thomasboro Drive after reports came in of shots fired. 

Upon arrival, police found a man who had collapsed in a vacant field with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on scene by Medic.

Police said they are in the very early stages of the investigation and are still trying to figure out what led up to the incident. This is the 85th homicide to occur in Charlotte this year.
