Man found shot to death, lying in middle of street in Lancaster

A man was found shot to death, lying in the middle of the street early Wednesday morning in Lancaster, police said. 

The man has been identified by police as Terry Louis Thompson, 47, of Lancaster, South Carolina. 

Officers with the Lancaster Police Department were on patrol around 1:17 a.m. Wednesday in the area of E. Dunlap and Thomas Lane when they saw a man lying in the road near the intersection. 

As officers investigated further, they discovered that the man had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was dead. 

Police said this particular section of E. Dunlap Street consists mostly of vacant houses. There were no calls of gunshots in the area prior to the discovery of the man, they said. 

An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday, November 2.
