YORK, S.C. (AP) - A 20-year-old man has been sentenced in the shooting death of a man who was dating his ex-girlfriend.
The Herald of Rock Hill reports (http://bit.ly/1RwirJR ) that Donquavious Davis was sentenced to 40 years in prison for burglary and 30 years for voluntary manslaughter in the June 2014 killing. He will serve the sentences at the same time.
Prosecutors say Davis became jealous after his girlfriend left him after they had a child together. Authorities say he sent about 1,000 text messages over the next few months.
Investigators say Davis went to her home, knocked on the door, hitting 24-year-old Santario McCoy with a gun before shooting him.
Davis' lawyer says he had a troubled home life and his mom was waiting to be sentenced on different charges the same day.
