A 24-year-old man was hit and killed Monday morning while on the phone with his fiancé after his tire blew out on the highway.
Brandon Carl Watts was traveling east on 485 outer loop near I-77 southbound ramp in a Dodge pick-up truck when his tire blew out causing him to crash into the median, according to State Highway Patrol Officer John Burgin. Watts called highway patrol for help and then his fiancé to pick him up while he was getting out of his truck.
Almost thirty minutes later highway patrol received a call with reports that a person had been hit. Watts was still on the phone with his fiancé when he was hit and killed. The driver hydroplaned and hit him, according to Burgin.
The driver is being charged with exceeding a safe speed and charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
This was one of many wrecks that happened Monday morning due to heavy rain.
