Man killed in Charlotte's fourth homicide of 2017 identified

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are still searching for the suspect who shot and killed Jabari Stewart on Wednesday, Jan. 4 in northwest Charlotte. 

The shooting occurred at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 in the 6200 block of Stonefort Court. 

Jabari's sister, Patrice Warren, reached out to FOX 46 saying Jabari, a father of 2 girls, was murdered in his own home while cooking dinner in the kitchen. She says one to three men burst into his home and shot and killed Jabari. 

"I am begging for your help to assist me with getting the community involved with helping bring his killers to justice," Patrice said. "The only way to combat the increase in gun violence and crime is by the community pulling together and fighting back with our awareness and willingness to speak up."

Upon arrival, officers located Jabari with an apparent gunshot wound. Medic responded and transported him to Carolinas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later. 

Mothers of Murdered Offspring is hosting a Candlelight Vigil for Jabari at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Marshall Park. 

This is an ongoing, active investigation.
