CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Police have identified the man who was shot and killed near in west Charlotte, and discovered that he was out on bond in connection to a previous murder charge.
Jay Jevon Phifer, 41, was shot to death around 1:00 p.m. yesterday near a west Charlotte recreation center just one block away from West Charlotte High School. The school briefly went on lockdown due to the shooting.
FOX 46 obtained court records that show Phifer was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Norris Martin in 2015.
Phifer was ordered to wear an ankle monitor as part of his bond. We are working to learn if he was wearing the ankle monitor when he was shot and killed.
Police are still looking for a suspect in yesterday's murder.
