Man steals Charlotte Knights costume, ran away wearing it, police say

A man was arrested after police say he stole the Charlotte Knights "Homer the Dragon" mascot costume from BB&T Ballpark early Sunday morning.

According to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department report obtained by FOX 46, Gillespie allegedly broke into an office at the ballpark, stole the costume and fled the scene while wearing it.

The costume has an estimated value of $6,000.

The report states Gillespie also stole a black two way radio from the office.

Union County deputies arrested Gillespie at his Indian Trail home on possession of stolen property and possession of marijuana. Warrants from CMPD were then signed for felony larceny and felony breaking and entering.
