Gastonia Police need the public’s help finding a man accused of sexual assault. Officers say he committed lewd acts on a woman at a retail store.

Police are searching for 39-year-old Robert Miller of Mooresville after a woman reported that he fondled himself and put his bodily fluids on her shirt inside the inside the TJ Maxx on Cox Rd..

Miller was caught on video surveillance entering the store, walking around and eventually leaving.

“It’s so disgusting and repulsive and of course illegal,” said one woman who frequently shops at the store.

Police were called to the TJ Maxx around 3:30 in the afternoon on January 27. The victim told officers she was alone in store aisle when the assault took place.

FOX46 spoke to customers who described how they would have responded.

“I would yell. I’d yell at the top of my lungs,” one woman said. Another woman said, “I definitely would scream and probably go for the manager and try to get a good look at him to see who he is.”

Police say they spoke to Miller and urged him to turn himself in but he wouldn’t cooperate. Arrest warrants were issued and Miller faces a felony charge of obscene exhibitions and misdemeanor sexual battery.

“They should definitely be arrested and probably prison time but I do think he needs medical attention too some sort of therapy,” one shopper said after loading her shopping bags in her car.

“He definitely needs to be put somewhere. He needs to go somewhere where he can’t do this again for sure,” said another woman as she walked to the store.

Detectives say this isn’t Miller’s first time, that he faced sexual charges back in 2012.

Police are asking anyone with information on Miller’s whereabouts to call Crime Stoppers of Gaston County at 704-861-8000.
