Manhunt underway after N.C. trooper shot in Wilson County

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man charged with shooting a third-generation North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper on Monday evening.

John David Jones, 36, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and assault on a law enforcement officer, WRAL reports. 

A massive manhunt is underway to find the suspect, and authorities say he should be be considered armed and dangerous.

Highway Patrol has identified the victim as Trooper Daniel Harrell.

Wilson County Sheriff Calvin Woodard Jr. told reporters at the scene that several law enforcement agencies are involved in the search for a suspect.

Jones was last seen wearing blue jeans, brown work boots and a green and dark blue coat. Jones stands about six feet tall and weighs about 175 pounds.
