Women serving in the U.S. Marine Corps can now wear their hair in locks or twists in uniform.

Monday, military leadership approved the new hairstyles after receiving input from a uniform board.

The Marine Corps is the first branch of service to allow the hairstyles.

Last year, Former Secretary of defense Chuck Hagel ordered the military branches to review their hairstyle policies.

Lock and twist hairstyles are authorized as long as they are neat and maintain a professional military image.
