Mecklenburg County could have its biggest turnout ever for a midterm election

Mecklenburg County could have its biggest turnout ever for a mid-term election.

"Just by indications from early voting, this is obviously not a normal turnout," said Michael Dickerson, director of elections for Mecklenburg County.

Lines formed outside the J.W. Clay Boulevard poll location in University City Friday as many people hoped to cut down on their wait time by voting early.

"I'm used to waiting three to four hours in a line so this is my first time trying this one."

Mid-terms are not nearly as popular as presidential elections, but there are congressional races and amendments on the ballot.

Early voting ends Saturday in North Carolina. Across the border in South Carolina, absentee voting is available until 5 p.m. Monday.

Election day is Tuesday, November 6.
