CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A Mecklenburg County Detention Center officer has been charged with sexual assault, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Former officer Vanquez D. Petty was fired on Friday, March 1 after Sheriff Garry McFadden learned of the alleged assault.
"As a public safety organization, all employees of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office are required to demonstrate professional and ethical conduct both on and off-duty," the Sheriff's Office said in a statement. "Any misconduct or violation of the law will not be tolerated by MCSO."
