Mega Millions jackpot rises again to staggering $1.6 billion

The Mega Millions jackpot went up again, setting a historic jackpot for Tuesday's drawing.

Saturday morning, the jackpot rose to a staggering $1.6 billion, tying to the highest prize ever won in January 2016.

Over at the B.P. gas station off Vinnie's Way in Mountain Island, 1,283 tickets were sold on Friday.

"I like to put out good vibes when I'm doing it," cashier Tabitha Drum said.

Drum said her gas station is home to a $1 million winner -- a previous employee.

"He worked here, yes, it was a mistake," Drum said. "A customer asked for it, they didn't want it and when a customer doesn't buy something we have to buy it. So, he bought it and hit for a million dollars.

FOX 46 asked customers what they would do with the winnings -- responses ranged from early retirement with travel to starting a non-profit agency.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands

Here in North Carolina, Drum is hoping that winning numbers come from her store, just one more time.

"Positive thoughts," she said.
