Missing woman held captive in Charlotte man's home found severely beaten, raped

A local man has been arrested after police said they found a woman, who had been reported missing by her family, severely beaten inside his Charlotte home.

Police said the suspect, identified as Jamuel Alston, had dated the victim briefly before reportedly holding her hostage inside his house.

"It was scary," said Mary, who asked us not to use her last name. She lives right next door to the condo where a woman was concealed and clinging to life.

The victim had been reported missing by her family on Monday, March 26.

CMPD said during a news conference Wednesday that a CMPD detective had located the victim's vehicle the next day on March 27 and started knocking on doors in the neighborhood.

"The detectives came up and asked me who lived in the building. With that particular unit, I thought it was vacant. I had been gone from Thursday to Monday. I didn't know somebody had moved in over the weekend," said Mary.

When police knocked at 7234 Winery Ln., Alston reportedly answered his door.

CMPD said the detective used years of training and intuition to make the decision to call out the victim's name because he knew he could not enter Alston's home without a warrant. Miraculously, the victim cried out for help and CMPD was able to enter the home to rescue her.

"They start saying her name. All of a sudden we can hear her and we go in there and find her. She mouths to them 'thank you'. She knows these guys saved her life," said Lt. Susan Manassah with CMPD’s Criminal Investigations Unit.

Police say they found her in the back bedroom, beaten, and raped three times by Alston. They had been dating.

She's at the hospital where police say she's expected to make a full recovery.

Alston is in jail facing several charges including attempted murder, rape, and kidnapping.

"I just hate it happened," said Mary.
