Months long road project starts Monday in Union County

Drivers who use New Town Road should start looking for alternative routes.

Starting on Monday road crews will begin a project that could take as long as 20 weeks to complete.

Two traffic circles are scheduled to be built--one where New Town Road meets Marvin School Road and the other where New Town Road meets Waxhaw Marvin Road.

Neighbors believe it will help ease traffic concerns.

"It'll be ten times better. I know it's gonna be a long time for construction and everything but it'll make everything better in the end," a neighbor said.

The project will impact local fire firefighters located about a mile away from the construction.

The Wesley Chapel Fire Department will be relying on the help of nearby departments, since the road project will slow the volunteer agency down.

Pleasant Valley Fire Department and the Carolina Fire Department will be on standby to respond to calls in that area as well.
