IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A Mooresville man has been charged with felony assault on an elderly person after deputies say he threw he 83-year-old mother in to a wall inside their home, causing her to fall and hit her head.
According to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the home located at 103 Pier 33 Drive on Saturday, Jan. 19 in reference to an assault.
As deputies arrived at the scene, an elderly woman said her 59-year-old son, who is also her caretaker, had attacked her inside the home where they both live together.
The woman told deputies that she and her son, identified as Raymond Grimes, were arguing when he grabbed her by the arms and threw her in to a wall inside the home, causing her to fall and hit her head on both the wall and a table. The woman claimed the physical abuse had been going on for several weeks.
Grimes was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was officially charged with felony assault on an elderly person. He was issued a $5,000 secured bond.
Grimes has a criminal history including DWI Level 5 in Iredell County.
