MOORESVILLE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - "It's ok to be white," signs were posted on mailboxes all over the Morrison Plantation neighborhood. They were signed by The Knights Party, and even referred people to the KKK’s website.
"Don't want to use horrible words, but to me it's racist, it's disgusting," Morrison Plantation neighbor Marcia Wright said.
One man who wanted to remain anonymous told FOX 46 he was walking his dog Wednesday morning when he saw the signs. He was so outraged, he took the signs down.
"I didn't know what to think about it, I don't know why they would put it up there," Morrison Plantation neighbor Steve Davis said.
It's not unusual to find signs on the mailboxes there.
"Lost dog, lost cat but that's it." Davis said.
This type of sign from the KKK, it's a first for everyone. Neighbors pointed out that whoever put them up took the time to put them in plastic sleeves so they wouldn't get ruined by the rain.
"I don't know why someone would take the time to do something like that, If I had seen them, I don't know what I would've done," Wright said.
Residents don't exactly know why their neighborhood was targeted.
"This is a good area. Never had car break-ins," Davis said.
Neighbors have a suspicion it's due to the area being home to many people from different backgrounds.
"We have Hispanics, Latinos, Black, Asian, Muslim, you name it. Indian. We have it all! We all get along exceptionally well," Wright said.
Mooresville Police is aware of the signs and has informed the property manager but the signs weren't violating any laws. Police do say, they plan to monitor the area to give neighbors peace of mind.
