More people hopping on the trolley than expected

More people are riding Charlotte's new street car than expected.

Passengers took the trolley more than 1,500 times in July, according to Lynx passengers.

Officials with the city's transportation system only predicted the street car would be used 900 times a month.

John Muth the interim CEO for the Charlotte Area Transportation system says those figures show the city is embracing rail transit and support more choices in how to get around.

Currently the street car only runs from Time Warner Cable Arena to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in the Elizabeth neighborhood.

The city plans to expand the street car like by 2019, connecting Sunnyside Avenue and Johnson Smith University.
