A day after a serious crash caused miles of backups for Gaston County commuters, another series of accidents is recreating the traffic nightmare.
Around 8:15a, a new crash was reported on Interstate 85 near Lowell / McAdvenille (Exit 23). This is the same spot where the two tractors trailers crashed Wednesday.
Earlier in the Thursday morning commute, all but one lane was shutdown near the weigh station at the county line. Inbound delays stretched back for over ten miles at one point. By 8a, that crash was cleared just as the second incident was reported.
Alternate routes including Wilkinson Blvd was again congested Thursday as drivers sought an alternate route.
"Northbound near the 23, when you come around the curb, the sun is in folk's eyes. They instantly slow down a lot. And that's a big crash area for us," NC Highway Patrol Trooper Brian Huffstickler told Fox 46 News after Wednesday's crash.
NCDOT says about 100,000 vehicles travel down this stretch every day right along the Gaston / Mecklenburg County line.
