Motive unclear in the death of 24-year-old Anthony Killian

A Catawba County man is charged with murder after he’s accused of firing fatal shots on Curlee Drive Tuesday night.

Scott Anthony Putnam is in jail, accused of killing 24-year-old Anthony Killian, and seriously injuring his mother, Roxanne Killian.

Two other people were inside the home when the crime took place.

"Anthony wasn't perfect," said his Aunt, Karen Smith.  "But Anthony was a darn good person."

Remnants of a crime scene remain in the front lawn of 24-year-old Anthony Killian’s home.

"It's starting to hit all of us a lot," said Smith.

Family members are still in shock.

"Anthony was a good person," said Smith.  "He had a darn good heart.  He would do anything for you-- but he didn't deserve that."

Smith lives nearby and was home Tuesday night when the fatal shots were fired, killing her nephew.

"It's just now really hitting me," Smith said.

Her sister-in-law Roxanne was also shot-- but survived and is recovering.  Scott Putnam is the man accused of pulling the trigger.

"I didn't know it was shots," said Smith.  "I did hear a 'ping ping,' and that's all I heard.  That's when the storm was coming up, though-- so I just thought a bad storm was coming."

Putnam remains behind bars with no bond.  His first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.

"Anthony didn't deserve that," Smith said.  "He'd do anything for you-- none of us are perfect, the good lord didn't make us perfect-- but he was a good kid."

Police are continuing to investigate as they try to uncover a motive.
