Motorcyclist dies after colliding with downed tree in Lincoln County

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Motorcyclist was killed after crashing into a downed tree on Highway 73, officials said.

The accident happened about 2 a.m. Wednesday between Club Drive and Killian Farm Road. According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle was heading west and collided with a tree that had fallen across the roadway. The driver, Jacob Wayne Chase, 24, of Lincolnton was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Duke Energy responded to repair power lines that were pulled down by the fallen tree. The roadway remained closed for several hours as traffic was rerouted during the investigation and repair process.
