Mount Holly family recovering after house fire thanks to community support

Emily and GT Swindell can’t say thank you enough.

“This community has really just poured into us and we really appreciate that,” Emily said.

FOX 46 Charlotte first met the Swindell couple and their four young boys in the beginning of January.

Their neighbors were holding a donation and fundraiser drive to help get the family back on their feet after a space heater destroyed their home. They had nothing but the clothes on their backs.

The community asked us to help spread the word for help, and we did.

We followed the journey of how their Runnymede subdivision in Mount Holly came together in the form of donation drives and monetary collections.

The Swindell's even got a personal video from NFL Super Bowl champion Chris Canty who sent a message directly to the four boys who are football fanatics.

The family stayed in a hotel for several weeks and finally moved into a rental this past week. The family also gave thanks to FOX 46 Charlotte for helping them to get results during this tough time.

They are still trying to meet their fundraising goal. You can help by contributing to their GoFundMe
