CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) - A National Weather Service team will make their way to Charlotte on Thursday morning to investigate reports that a tornado touched down.
Powerful storms left behind plenty of damage in southwest Charlotte along Westinghouse Boulevard.
Trees were downed, and power poles snapped in half.
Duke energy and emergency crews were quickly on the scene to access the damage. They are still working on some traffic lights in the area.
Power was cut to the area, sending the busy part of town into darkness and at a nearby strip mall, a semi was blown over.

Crews helped unload the cargo from that truck, onto a new truck, before they eventually flipped the semi right side up. Witnesses say they have never seen anything like it, and immediately came outside to help.
