A North Carolina couple headed to South Carolina for cheaper gas and ended up winning big.

The couple traveled to Clover, S.C. to get gas at the Local Market 2 off Highway 321, according to a spokesperson for the SC lottery. The couple bought a Mega Millions ticket for Friday night's drawing while at the gas station.

The husband checked the ticket online over the weekend and discovered they had won! He circled the numbers 13, 35, 40, 60 and 68 on his ticket that matched the numbers online.

His wife said he yelled and she ran in to check on him, she described the moment as overwhelming.

"For years we've been dreaming of a home on the lake," the husband said.

The couple is starting the search right away, according to a spokesperson with the SC lottery.

The SC lottery says the odds of winning $1 million playing Mega Millions are about 1 in 18.5 million. The Local Market 2 received a commission of $10,000 for selling the ticket.
