NC deputy killed in crash, marks first line-of-duty death in 2018

A Scotland County, North Carolina deputy was killed last Thursday in a crash while he was en route to help another deputy, according to the NC State Highway Patrol.

Deputy Sheriff Alexis Locklear, 24, was driving down Old Wire Road, west of Wagram, around 7:20 p.m. when he crashed.

Locklear was responding to assist another officer who was actively pursuing a suspect in a vehicle chase, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputy Locklear is the fifth traffic-related fatality this year and the first-line-of-duty death in the state of North Carolina in 2018. He was sworn in May 2017 and leaves behind a 4-year-old child.
