NC man charged with cashing stolen lottery tickets

A Huntersville man has been charged with cashing stolen lottery tickets taken Monday, November 23, in a convenience store burglary in Marlboro County, according to S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

Galen Gene Shanks, 41, was charged with eight counts of falsely making, altering, forging, uttering, passing or counterfeiting of a lottery ticket.

Shanks cashed out $442 total from the stolen lottery tickets.

This type of felony carries a penalty for each count upon conviction of up to five years in prison, or a fine of up to $50,000 or both, according to SLED.

Shanks was booked a the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County. The case will be prosecuted by the Fifth Circuit Solicitor's Office.
