A Maiden man has been sentenced to a minimum of 23 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child between the ages of 1 and 3, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives said the sexual assault was reported in September 2018. The victim was between the ages of 1 and 3 at the time of the offense, they said.

Douglas Glenn Queen Jr., 29, of Maiden, appeared in court on Wednesday, Jan. 9 on charges of first-degree sex offense, indecent liberties with a child, and felony child abuse.

Queen pleaded guilty to all charges and received a minimum sentence of 23 years to a maximum of 32 and a half years in the North Carolina Prison System.

Authorities said upon Queen's release, he will receive 30 months of supervised probation. He will also require to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and be subject to satellite monitoring.

A permanent no contact order has also been put in place preventing Queen for ever having contact with the victim. Authorities said a second person in this case, Ashley Nichole Lattimore, 27, of Maiden, is facing the same charges. She is expected to appear in Lincoln County Superior Court on Jan. 11, 2019.

Lattimore is being held in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $250,000 secured bond.
