Neighbors getting results for kids with cancer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Members of Burn Boot Camp Mallard Creek are getting results by getting their bodies in motion for  a good cause. Saturday they’ll host their annual charity workout.

It’s the fourth year for their Warrior Workout event. Its all to honor Elijah Aschbrenner who only lived for 10 years, but touched enough people to last a lifetime.

“That little boy has such an awesome story its just really neat to see the community come together,” said Erin Farmer who will be at Saturday’s workout.

Aschbrenner died more than three years ago after battling epithelioid sarcoma.

“Just to see the community come together for that cause it plays a toll on your heart,” said Nicole Stewart, who will also be attending Saturday’s workout.

The workout will take place in the parking lot outside Burn Boot Camp Mallard Creek in the Edison Square Plaza.

“He really affected this community he really affected me while I was opening this gym because it was very stressful but this really kept it in perspective what he was going through and what his family was going through and it kept me very humble through the process,” said Melissa Price the owner of the gym.

In years past upwards of 200 people came together for the event, which in addition to the workout also features a kid zone and carnival atmosphere.

“Our mission is to come together and just to support a great cause,” said Farmer.

All of the money raised goes to the Prayers For Elijah Foundation. The group’s main purpose is to raise money for cancer research.
