CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A popular family farm in Ballantyne has been sold. Hall Family Farm is picking up and moving.
The family has said this was a long time coming. The farm has been the go-to place in Ballantyne for picking strawberries for 12 years.
“My wife and I who do the farming we've known it was going to sell for many years now,” Kevin Hall said.
He says the land has been in his family for more than 100 years. He and his wife lease the land for the farm from Kevin’s aunts and uncles. Kevin says his family chose to sell the land.
“We have a lot of memories here,”
Those farmland memories will grow into a hospital if everything goes as Novant Health has planned.
Novant tells FOX 46 they've filed an application to build a 36-bed hospital with two operating rooms and a C-section operating room on the former hall farm property on Providence Road West.
“I think Novant will be a really good positive thing for the community,”
Hall Family Farm is sticking around; they'll just be in a new location across the South Carolina line. 14 miles away in Lancaster County.
“Hopefully we'll be opening resuming what we do here but on a much grander scale in 2021.”
The farm isn't moving quite yet. They'll have strawberry picking in a few weeks and pumpkin picking this fall at the current location in Ballantyne then take a year off and open in Lancaster County the following year.
