CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A mother charged with killing her seven-month-old daughter will stay in jail after a judge did not give her bond Tuesday.
Neighbors say they were shocked to hear that 20-year-old Raeonna Watson is accused of murdering her baby girl.
“Oh my God, this is terrible. This is terrible. I never imagined this would happen here because the people look nice,” one neighbor told FOX 46.
The Brownstone in Charlotte is the last place neighbors thought something like this would happen.
“Totally shocked who would expect somebody to murder their kids,” another neighbor said.
Charlotte Mecklenburg police say Watson is responsible for the death of little Jade Williams.
Jail records show another family member, Jawan Williams, was arrested for simple assault on Monday-- the same day police and EMS were called to the house on Galena View Drive in the Brownstone neighborhood to assist with Jade. Police say the seven-month-old was unresponsive when they got there.
This isn't the first time Jawan Williams has been arrested. According to court documents in October of 2017, he was charged with battery of an unborn child.
Court records show he's accused of grabbing Raeonna Watson by her neck and shoving her to the ground when he knew she was three weeks pregnant. Those charges were later dismissed, according to the Clerk of Court's Office.
“For something like that to happen in your neighborhood it's sad hurtful, I have kids, I have five kids-- three in here-- it's just hurtful,” said a father who lives in the neighborhood.
An ambulance was called to court for Watson’s mother Tuesday afternoon. When Watson appeared in a jumpsuit, her mom started flailing and screaming. She fell to the floor and someone yelled that she was having a seizure.
Watson is scheduled for another court appearance next week.
