North Carolina high school student dies in high-speed crash

A Raleigh teen was killed after hitting trees in a wreck Tuesday morning, according to the Associated Press.

Madeline Grace Shook, 16, a student at Cardinal Gibbons High School, was driving on Possum Track Road when the car ran off the road, ultimately striking several trees.

She died at the scene. She was the only occupant in the vehicle.

According to WRAL, troopers said Shook was driving 95 mph in a 45 mph zone.

“She seemed to have a lot of friends in my class,” said classmate Dan McGillicuddy to the AP. “She just seemed to light up the room. She made people around her happy.”

The school held a mass for in honor of the cross country runner.
