RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- A North Carolina woman has been charged with neglect after her daughter died last year after swallowing a drug mixture.

Media outlets reported that 30-year-old Lacrystal Renee McClain of Garner is charged with felony child neglect and a weapons charge after a stolen handgun was found in her apartment.

Investigators say 9-month-old Allie Gaines died Nov. 15 after swallowing heroin and fentanyl.

McClain has been in the Wake County jail since February, when she was charged with conspiring to traffic in heroin, with Allie's father, 33-year-old Albert Gaines Jr. She earlier had also been charged with maintaining a residence to store or sell drugs.

Albert Gaines was also already in the Wake County jail charged with felony child abuse.

It was not known if the couple has attorneys.
