Nurse practitioner arrested for prescription fraud

A local nurse practitioner is facing multiple charges after police said he wrote up fraudulent prescriptions. 

The Mooresville Police Department arrested Bethany Rachel Boroughs, 40, of Huntersville, for writing fraudulent prescriptions and obtaining controlled substances by fraud or forgery.

Officers said while working as a nurse practitioner at Piedmont Healthcare-Urgent Care on Days Inn Drive, Boroughs wrote and subsequently passed fraudulent prescriptions at local pharmacies in Mooresville. 

Boroughs has been charged with one count of obtaining controlled substance by fraud or forgery, one count of attempting to obtain controlled substance by fraud or forgery, and two counts of identity theft. 

Boroughs was transported to the Iredell County Jail where she received a $5,000 secured bond.
