Officer in Danquirs Franklin shooting placed on suspension for separate issue

CMPD Officer Larry Deal, seen on the left, was placed on suspension for an issue separate from the fatal shooting of Danquirs Franklin at a Burger King on March 25. CMPD would not specify the reason for his suspension. (CMPD)

CMPD confirmed on Monday that one of the officers involved in the fatal Danquirs Franklin shooting at a Burger King last month has been placed on suspension for an unrelated prior issue.

Officer Larry Deal, 44, is seen on the second officer's body cam footage that was released last week by CMPD. It is unclear why there is no body cam footage from Officer Deal.

Officer Deal was suspended on April 5 for a separate incident but CMPD would not elaborate or confirm to the FOX 46 news room the reason for the suspension.

Officer Wende Kerl shot and killed Danquirs Franklin March 25 after responding to a call about a disturbance at a Burger King and a man with a gun.

The body cam footage from Kerl was released but CMPD said Officer Deal's body cam was not "functional".

Deal has been with the department since 2001.
