Officer recovering after utility pole crashes through vehicle

An officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police is recovering after an overnight crash Friday in uptown Charlotte.

Crews worked to fix downed power lines after a CMPD officer was involved in a wreck with another vehicle.

It happened just after midnight at E.11th and N. Caldwell Streets in front of First Ward Elementary School.

A utility pole went through a CMPD SUV's windshield and several power lines were taken down, police said.

Two people were taken to the hospital.

It's unclear what caused the crash.
